Russia agrees to join grain export agreement with Ukraine
Russia has agreed to rejoin the grain export agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has informed this information. Through this agreement, Ukraine can export grain through the Black Sea. This information was reported in a report by Al-Jazeera, a Qatar-based media outlet, on Wednesday (November 2).
The Turkish President said that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told the Turkish Defense Minister on the phone that they want to continue with the agreement as before.
Erdoğan said that in terms of the agreement, more importance will be given to sending food to African countries including Somalia, Djibouti and Sudan.
Ukraine’s ports have been completely closed since last Sunday after Russia suspended the grain export agreement. The world may fall into a more extreme food crisis. However, Turkey is determined to continue the Ukraine-Russia food grain agreement. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made such comments at an event in Istanbul on Monday (October 31).
Russia has pulled out of a deal to export grain from Ukraine after a drone attack on a Russian fleet off the coast of Crimea in the Black Sea. The agreement allowed Russia and Ukraine to export grain through Black Sea ports. The much-anticipated agreement was signed in Istanbul on July 22, mediated by Turkey and the United Nations.
